Major sequencing effort will produce most detailed map of human genetic variation to support disease studies. The 1000 Genome project will receive major support from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton, England, the Beijing Genomics Institute Shenzhen in China and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).

Cucumber is an important vegetable in the world. However, its narrow genetic basis makes it a less desirable species for genetic study and molecular breeding. The Cucumber Genome Initiative makes an international effort to unlock the genetic potential of an orphan crop using novel genomic technology,

Nowadays common metabolic diseases causing premature cardiovascular disorders and mortality have become a serious worldwide public health challenge. As Danish-Sino initiatives to open the genome and to improve cardiovascular health of the at-risk population, LUCAMP gathers 10 Danish university centers/institutes and BGI of China to conduct the studies.

BGI-Shenzhen Computing Center(BCC, to be confirmed) project is a Shenzhen Government and Yantian District funding computer center. The project will be launched at the end of 2008, and be finished at the end of 2009. It will be the third 100Tflops supercomputer in China. But different to the other two 100Tflops supercomputer to be founded next year, BCC's supercomputer will be focused on the high-throughput data processing. It will be a supercomputer with 10P storage system, which is build for BGI's research on Panda Genome Project, 1000 People Genome Project, MetaHIT, Tree of Life Project etc.. |
